THE ZEN OF IMPROV (The Next Little Step Approach)
SATURDAY 9/12
10AM-12PM
Capacity: 15

Interested in exploring patient, discovery-based improvisation moment by moment, free of the onus to be jokey and invent stuff? Want to get more adept at improvising honestly from the heart? In the The Zen of Improv/Next Little Step approach, we practice improvising one step at a time by paying attention at a ninja level, listening and responding honestly and naturally, playing through our natural emotional point of view, and utilizing the concepts of "Heat" and Weight" to discover the relationship that exists already onstage. We will improvise from a place of ease as we practice learning how to be more aware of the scene that’s revealing itself onstage and following where the show wants to go...while letting go of the need to work so damn hard and “make stuff up.” This workshop is perfect for new and developing improvisers and remarkably challenging for those who have been at it a long while too. (Which is exactly why you old hats should do it…follow your fear!) This approach is inspired by the process of writing "Improvisation at the Speed of Life: The TJ & Dave Book" with TJ Jagodowski and David Pasquesi.

About Pam Victor: Pam Victor founded Happier Valley Comedy, the hotbed of improv comedy in Western Mass. Pam is the founding member of The Ha-Ha’s which whom she performs at The Happier Valley Comedy Show (Arts Block Cafe/Greenfield), which she also produces. In the summers, she's a regular performer with the Majesters (Majestic Theatre/W. Springfield), and when she's lucky she graces the stage with her dear friends at ImprovBoston. Pam has received training from iO Theater (Chicago), Annoyance Theatre (Chicago), ImprovBoston, and from Second City teachers. Pam also writes a lot about improvisation. She writes the “Zen of Improv” series, a sassy (and sometimes saucy) look at the alignment of improvisation and Zen thinking as well as the well-respected "Geeking Out with..." interview blog series. Along with TJ Jagodowski and David Pasquesi, Pam is the co-author of "Improvisation at the Speed of Life: The TJ & Dave Book." The sweater she is wearing in the photo to the right was worn by Tina Fey as Liz Lemon in “30 Rock.” (True story.)
